    What is SHS?

  • Studentnetwork at University of Skövde is a non-profit society run by students for students. SHS is one of the largest student organizations in Skövde with more than 800 members. The SHS society is not affiliated with the student union (Studentkåren) or the university itself. SHS allows its members living in Skövdebostäder apartments access to a good and cheap internet connection. SHS uses two shared 10 Gbit connections from SUNET. As a member of SHS you gain access to some benefits, where the Internet connection is the most notable one. Remember that you are paying for a membership, not for an Internet service.

  • What are the benefits of being a SHS member?

  • As a member of the SHS society you receive a number of benefits one of them being an internet provided that you live in an apartment by skövdebostäder.


    How do i become a member?

  • In order to become a member you will need to have a student email and pay the membership fee on the website.

  • Is it safe to pay with credit card over the internet?

  • Yes, it's very safe because the connection between you and our payment provider PayEx is fully encrypted. Card information that you specify when paying your membership fee payment is impossible to rebuild for us because the entire transaction is handled by PayEx. We always do our utmost to ensure your privacy, confidentiality and security.

  • Who is your payment provider?

  • We use PayEx as a provider of card payments. PayEx is PCI certified according to the security requirements for bank and credit card transactions. The certification means that PayEx uses the highest possible level of security throughout the payment process, so that you as a member will be safe with your payment.

  • When do I need to renew my membership?

  • There are two membership periods each year, one for spring and one for autumn you will need to renew your membership for each period.

  • Why should I pay membership fee?

  • You need to do that to become or remain as a member of the SHS society. And if you are not a member anymore while using an internet connection through SHS in your apartment the connection will be blocked.

  • Paid membership, when do i get internet?

  • After you have paid your membership fee it usually takes between 5-15 minutes for the internet to get activated.

  • How to pay the membership

  • When logged into your profile, under "membership" you can see past reciepts and if you can pay for a new term.

    If you have a payment due, you will see the button for "proceed to payment".

  • Membership periods

  • There are two membership periods, Spring semester and Autumn semester

    Spring semester counts from the 1 of Febrary to the 31 of August.
    You can pay for this semester between the 1 of December and then untill the 31 of May.

    Autumn semester counts from the 1 of September to the 31 of January.
    You can pay for this semester from the 1 of June and then untill the 30 of November.

    Move into apartment

  • Do you get the message "You must be using Internet connection from a student apartment connected to Studentnätet." when trying to move in?

    This means that you need to be connected to our network when trying to move into your apartment, this is mainly done by connecting the cable from the network-outlet(outletbox) in your apartment to your router and then connect your phone/computer to the router.

    When this is done, you can always access our website at and move in, even though you can't access the rest of the internet. After 5-15 minutes your internet connection will be up.

  • Moving to a another apartment

  • To change your apartment, move out from the old under the "move" bar when logged in.
    And into the new one on the "move" tab, there you will write your new apartmentnumber and select your outletbox.
    Moving in can only be done from the "new" apartment.

    Please note that your membership will move with you, so if you have paid for the current term you will keep the internet as well.

  • Cannot sign in?

  • We are not connected to the university, you set you own password for this site.

    An email with instructions will be sent to your email (school email) as well as a link which you use to set a new password.


    Why is my internet not working?

  • There​ ​could​ ​be​ ​several​ ​reasons​ ​why​ ​your​ ​internet​ ​is​ ​not​ ​working,​ ​here​ ​are the​ ​most​ ​common​ ​reasons.

    • You​ ​have​ ​not​ ​moved​ ​in​ ​to​ ​your​ ​apartment​ ​on​ ​the​ ​website. In​ ​order​ ​to​ ​receive​ ​internet​ ​from​ ​us​ ​you​ ​need​ ​to​ ​move​ ​into​ ​your​ ​apartment​ ​on our​ ​website so we know where you live.
    • You​ ​have​ ​not​ ​paid​ ​your​ ​membership​ ​fee​ ​this​ ​semester. In​ ​order​ ​to​ ​receive​ ​internet​ ​you​ ​need​ ​to​ ​have​ ​payed​ ​for​ ​your​ ​membership​ ​each semester.​ ​You​ ​can​ ​pay​ ​for​ ​your​ ​membership​ ​directly on​ ​our​ ​website.
    • Your​ ​settings​ ​are​ ​incorrect. If​ ​you​ ​can​ ​not​ ​reach​ ​our​ ​website​ ​at​ ​all​ ​make​ ​sure​ ​your​ ​DNS​ ​is​ ​set​ ​to​ ​our​ ​DNS. The​ ​IP​ ​of​ ​our​ ​DNS​ ​servers​ ​are​ ​​ ​and​ ​
    • Your​ ​equipment​ ​is​ ​not​ ​working​ ​properly. In​ ​some​ ​cases​ ​your​ ​equipment​ ​might​ ​not​ ​be​ ​compatible​ ​with​ ​our​ ​network​ ​or​ ​it is​ ​damaged.
  • How do I change my DNS?

  • Which routers do you not recommend?

  • We urge you not to buy a D-link router as these will not work well in our network.
    Also routers which you get from another ISP is dose not work as they might be specifically configured for their networks.
    COMHEM routers will not work at all as they operate via coaxial cable instead of networkcable.
    Don't buy a Netgear N300 or a D-Link DIR-809 as they have not worked at all in our network

    Usually we don't recommend a router that cost less then 500 kr

  • Why is my internet connection slow!?

  • There​ ​could​ ​be​ ​several​ ​reasons​ ​why​ ​your​ ​Internet​ ​connection​ ​is​ ​slow.

    • Are​ ​you​ ​connected​ ​to​ ​Wi-Fi? If​ ​you​ ​are​ ​it's​ ​probably​ ​the​ ​reason​ ​for​ ​your​ ​slow​ ​connection​ ​because​ ​the wireless​ ​network​ ​around​ ​the​ ​student​ ​apartments​ ​are​ ​over​ ​crowded​ ​and it's​ ​leads​ ​to​ ​slow​ ​connection​ ​on​ ​Wi-Fi. Try​ ​connect​ ​your​ ​device​ ​by​ ​cable​ ​and​ ​try​ ​again.
    • If​ ​it​ ​still​ ​is​ ​slow​ ​please​ ​try​ ​restarting​ ​all​ ​of​ ​your​ ​devices/network equipment​ ​and​ ​try​ ​again.
    • It​ ​might​ ​be​ ​your​ ​router​ ​is​ ​failing.​ ​Try​ ​connect​ ​your​ ​device​ ​by​ ​cable directly​ ​to​ ​the​ ​wall​ ​outlet.​ ​If​ ​this​ ​works​ ​it's​ ​probably​ ​your​ ​router​ ​that​ ​is the​ ​problem. If​ ​it​ ​still​ ​is​ ​slow​ ​please​ ​try​ ​with​ ​another​ ​device​ ​and​ ​try​ ​again.
    • If​ ​you​ ​are​ ​living​ ​in​ ​bataljonen,​ ​plutonen​ ​or​ ​fältskären​ ​there​ ​could​ ​be​ ​a problem​ ​with​ ​the​ ​cables​ ​in​ ​the​ ​building.​ ​If​ ​you​ ​have​ ​tried​ ​the​ ​above please​ ​contact us.
  • Can i use port forwarding from my router in the SHS network?

  • All ports for members are by default unblocked except mail server(25) and DNS server (53) ports.

    These are locked to prevent spam from and spoofing of the domain name aswell as DNS-amplification attacks.
